Contact free sensor of vital signs and
sleep activity | |
|
Core
Business |
EarlySense is a medical
systems company with a unique patented technology for accurate, contact free
sensing and analyzing vital signs. The technology is based on a low cost sensor
that is placed underneath a bed's mattress. The sensor tracks heart rate,
breathing rate, motion and sleep activity without ever touching the subject. The
technology is FDA cleared and CE approved, having been used to monitor over
50,000 patients for over 5,000,000 hours in hospitals, nursing homes and homes.
EarlySense is now introducing
its technology into the home Wellness market, allowing its partners to access
the new, growing frontier in wellness which is the sleep quality
market. | |
|
Major
Products |
The EarlySense System is a fully
integrated patient monitoring solution and supervision platform that provides
continuous and real-time vital signs and motion information for all beds in a
hospital unit. The Patient Care Manager (PCM) at the nurses’ station helps on
duty nurses to closely supervise the status of the entire patient population on
the floor at all times. The availability of real-time vital signs and motion
information along with the corresponding alerts help the caregivers provide
closer supervision thus leading to better clinical
outcomes. | |

Title |
Contact free sleep wellness sensing for
the consumer market |
|
Abstract |
A. Project Objectives
Similarly to diet and fitness,
a sensing mechanism is needed to tell consumers how they are sleeping and
whether their plan for improvement is working. The project goal is to apply
EarlySense contact free technology to the sleep wellness market.
EarlySense sensor continuously
tracks heart rate, breathing rate and sleep activity including tracking of sleep
stages (REM, deep sleep, light sleep and wake time). The sensor will wirelessly
communicate with a smartphone to provide sleep wellness and trending reports.
The smartphone will allow connectivity to social media and introduction to sleep
experts whom can view the data shared according to the user permission. In
addition, for home sleep, EarlySense smart sensor can provide smart alarm option
to wake the user at the lightest part of her sleep, so to arise more
refreshed.

C. Commercial Value
The estimated global wellness market is 1.9
trillion1. Sleep is a major concern for the modern population. In the
beginning of 2013 Philips published a survey2 stating
that:
“Country to country, across ages and life
stages, sleep was found to be one of the top 5 issues important to people”.
The business model includes selling the
sensor at an end user price of $79 and potentially a monthly service
model.
